Nothing, or nothing you can see!
« on: November 25, 2009, 03:07:01 PM »
Right... I hope this is in the correct area...

My forum seems to be "under attack"  :dman

I'm getting this
Guest (xxx.xxx.xxx.xx, Firefox) 07:36:33 PM          Nothing, or nothing you can see...

in the who's online area. They've been there all day, and the page views are 5x the normal amount.

What could be causing this?
is there a mod or anything to show what they are doing?
is it something I should be worried about?
and apart from banning the IP is there anything that I can do to stop this happening?

Many thanks in advance
Tracey

Is there anything showing in your error logs? Do you have your sessions set to drop the guest/member off the board after about 15 minutes of being inactive, or is it set for longer?

Are you using 1.1.10 or the 2.0? Go to features and check the time set in "User online time threshold". I have mine set at 15 minutes which is the default.

On my forum the member would be in the gallery and I would get that same message. I got Harsh to fix it so that we can see that they are in there now and no longer get the message.

This about all the help I can offer, but if you answer those questions it will help the guys here help you! Good luck.

Thanks for your reply

I have checked the forum error logs, and theres nothing in there at all that are generated from guests or that IP.
The time online is set to 15 minutes (but this particular "guest" was refreshing 2 or 3 times a minute)
We're using 1.1.10, but the forum is just one part of the site, and we dont see people on the who's online until they actually go to the forum rather than the other part of the site, then if they stay on the main site for more than 15 minutes, they drop off the forum.
All I can think of is that its some hacker trying to hack the CAPTCHA, but in our case our forum doesnt have CAPTCHA... but if that is the case, it would still be nice to know what they are doing

Does this all make sense? (sorry, its early, and I've woken with a headache :( )

Apparently (from the site developer) they're all 403's generated by a low-grade automatic scanner, and they're 403's because the site developer (who isn't in the least worried by any of this ;) ) has explicitly allowed acces to only the files on the website, and everything else 403's
