Where can I find a copy of SMF 1.1.8
« on: June 13, 2009, 10:29:07 AM »
It might be some time before the host that the site is on upgrades its php. SO I have decided to go with 1.1.8, if there is a copy of it out there. If not, I will try 1.1.9 again..
Anyone know where i can find one?
Thanks
~Everis

Why are you going to 1.1.8? Reason they updated to 1.1.9 for 1.1.8 and 2.0 RC1-1 from 2.0 RC1 is because of major security issues in the version before (1.1.8, 2.0 RC1) and alot ALOT of sites were getting hacked by people doing hack's through their avatars and more things then that.

There are steps you could take to reduce the risks (not allowing people to upload and use their own avatars .... and more things other then just that if you are using 1 of those two versions). Another question why 1.1.8 (1.1.8 = same exact thing as 1.1.9 but with the security risks and 2.0 RC1 = same exact thing as 2.0 RC1-1 but with the security risks) because if you like 2.0 RC1-1 maybe you should go with 2.0 RC1 ..... just a few questions I had. Just trying to help keep your site safe.

As long as PHP isn't below 5.2.0 SMF shouldn't have problems running.

Her php and mysql are low but i think right at 5.2.0 ... it is causing a few errors .. even from a fresh install ccb and I were trying to help her around it..... but not much we can do as far as those 2 errors until they update her

has this been solved. It's not really a good idea to go with 1.1.8 due to security reasons and such. I would talk to your host about this problem.

Her host is being ... how do you put it in a nice way ...... stuborn and not very helpful. They have not updated her php or mysql yet. I tried catching her before she downgraded (as she thought going to a lower version like 1.1.X would not hav ethe php and mysql problems) to let her know that the problems were going to still be there. bUt I didn't and she downgraded to 1.1.9 and as she relized the problems are still there. She left me a message on my site that she is mad about this whole situation and I haven't seen her since. I am trying to catch up with her through my site, here, skype and/or email to see what is going on and if I can lend her a hand more and get things resolved. Maybe if she wants (as I already know her host login info) I can send her host a support ticket through her account with some things I have knowledge in about this situation to help push them along on getting her php and mysql updated.
