[SMF 2.0 HELP] Requesting Help Setting up site
« on: June 06, 2009, 02:25:08 PM »
Not sure if I am doing this in the correct spot. I am having a horrible time getting this thing set up. Every time I turn around and do something, another thing goes wrong. Can one of you helpful SMFHelper people lend me a hand?

I can help also if you need.

You can have 1 billion errors keep appearing at times but it can be a result of 1 or 2 things. So that's why if they are repeating errors we tell people to post each of the errors once (so if you have 100 error messages and they are 5 different errors repeating just post those 5) and then also attach your current files that the error says the problem is in.

It would be best we get the errors fixed BEFORE trying to install ANY more mods. You don't want to have a bunch of errors and install more things(mods/edits) on top of it. First off it makes it harder to track the errors at some points second you might receive more errors from the new mod or edit. But if it is just 1 or 2 errors that are there and they seem to be popping up but their is no visible area that it is affecting then you can go ahead and keep editing your site and adding mods while you wait for someone to post the fix for those 1 or 2 errors.

Now you said that you have other admins that have access to your arcade and editing it. What would be a great idea is to figure out exactly what they did so we can go back through what they did entirely(if needed) to find the problem. That would be the first step to resolving this problem. Also be sure you do post up those errors (one of each) with the attached files that the error is in. Second if there is a eval error do the sql edit we told you about before to make it show the proper file the error is in.

So just get those errors posted up with the attached files and back track what people edited with the arcade and we will surely get you squared away! You are in good hands here at SMF Helper  :dnc

All the other person did was add games. They would not install and were in the tempgame folder, so I deleted them.
I have left the errors in the error log, so they can be seen as they were coming in.
I start going through the errors and looking, then I wonder if one is a new one or one I already added. Getting confused and a bit frustrated  ??? Hands on beside a person lessons is sounding great right about now.

I would say this .... let's say there is 5 errors and those 5 keep repeating. Go ahead and select ALL except 1 of each of those 5 and delete them (so in your error log at the end you should have only 5 errors). Then keep a close eye on your error log (maybe check it every 10 - 15 min and if something new or fresh is in there remember what you just did and go and try doing it again. If there is the error popping up again from what you just did (check the time on the error in the error log) then you know what is causing that. Post the error and the file and what you do that causes the error. You can also delete ALL ERRORS and do this same process. But be sure to post your errors with the files on here so we can fix them. That way you probably wont have so many popping up.

Just delete ALL of them ... they will come back and you can view them. Just view the error log every 10 min or so see new ones and record new on only if you dont already have it recorded.

I have a mod that will display # of current errors and has a link directly to your error log it displays just under your total time logged in (shows only for admins). That way if you do something and the number just jumped from 3 > 5 you will see that and you can go straight there and see what the error was and you know what you just did that made it appear.

I think I need that mod after all of this is sorted.

I took a look on her site and I have downloaded these 2 files onto my computer and am currently searching for the error. Was wondering if someone else wanted to take a stab at it while I was.

Errors:

Subs.php

2: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /public_html/Sources/Load.php:2483)
File: /public_html/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 3200

Line: 2172

Those lines themselves actually look fine .. compared to my own and they are exactly the same. I am just trying to locate where the errors are actually being caused then.

Yea I dont understand why the errors are coming ... I mean there is something wrong because when I go to clear her cache in the admin section under routine a error does display on a white page like it was failing ot load and talks about the cache (same error that is posted above) and then you have to refresh the page for it to go to where it was trying to. Happens in a few places.

Have you tried replacing both files with clean ones to see if that solves the problem. Keep the originals in case it does more damage then good. It could also be due to a mod that was removed wrong.

I was thinking of it being a mod that was removed wrong (i actually asked everis if the e-arcade had errors on the uninstall but she said no). She has installed 2 total mods more spiders and e-arcade. I think e-arcade is the corpriate for all of this junk. Do to her only having 1 mod I am thinking of downloading the full install 2.0 RC1-1 install and extracting and taking like the sources and themes folder and replacing them with fresh ones (after uninstalling the more spiders mod). That way her files that deal with her settings dont get wipeout with fresh ones so her settings will be the same but the error will be solved (most likely (we hope)). Then we reinstall more spiders mod and she is back where she wanted to be (without the errors). ........ I knew there was a reason I hated e-arcade  :lmao

~Edit~
I tried replacing both those files with fresh ones and i am thinking the errors are in 1 of her 2 custom themes (mainly the one that is being used). Due to the fact it is saying in the errors that those strings are already being called in that location ..... it isnt telling us where the location is that it is trying to call it from that is causing that. All it is saying is I am trying to call it from my location but its already being called in subs.php and load.php. I am going to try changing the theme to default and run on it and see what appears.

~Edit 2~
Just changed it back to default entirely for everyone ran it for a few minutes doing the things that were bringing the errors and now its error free and smooth. That theme she was using is not coded correctly to work with 2.0 RC1-1 with the subs and load .php files. There was quite a bit more problems earlier including a critical database error and quite a few more errors but I already fixed those. Now she just tosses out this theme or has it modified to work with those 2 files (those call strings be removed) then everything is perfect again!

I've cleaned her all up by surpressing buffer errors.

It's a 'not so serious' problem with her hosting. Bigguy, you should totally get her to host with us. :p

LOL Everis just informed me that you tried that and tested that at the same time I changed her to the default theme .... which made no errors appear (default theme) making it seem like what you did solved it.
Yea I am on her hosts account and they are ... on the sad side. The layout alone of their stuff is horrible to say the least. So for kicks and giggles I changed her forum back to her theme she had and the errors came back .... so that theme is going "bye bye" until those are fixed in the custom theme side of things or she picks a new theme.

Ah, the buffer errors were those 'sent parameters too late' things. I didn't fix any layout issues as of yet with that theme.

What theme was that, anyways?

Maybe after the time runs out on the server. Have to talk to others involved with this. But sounds  a LOT better then what I am using atm.

Asalet v7
http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=1283

She also found another theme she likes that has a few errors put the are just unidentified errors that are easy to fix compared to the Asalet v7 theme. Maybe sometime today I will get that posted up here for her and we all can take a stab at it.

I will get on your site and and check them!

~Edit~
After reviewing it and noticing it is the SAME errors as that Asalet v7 theme and looking into your php and mysql versions ... Your host needs to update your php and mysql versions. That is what is causing the errors. (Fully figured it out with using CCB's smarts).
