I'm having a terrible time trying to update to the newest version.
I just uninstalled the old version and tried to install the newest version but got an error saying my package files weren't writable so I think I'm just going to forget about this mod and go with Simple portal.
Even though I uninstalled ezportal, I see I still have a folder and files on my host site.
Is it safe to just delete all these files?

Maybe I'm not going to install Simple portal. I'm getting the same error saying:
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!
My package folder has all 7's so how do I fix this or what am I suppose to do?

to fix that issue, if you are in the package area.. go to the far right tab.. file permissions.. fill in the right info, choose make all files rightable, then go back and hit apply..

some servers do cause this and its better to be safe and do it this way Sheryl.. ;)

When I say to make all files writable and click save file permissions I still get that error.
I use to get a screen where I had to put the password for my cpanel but it's not showing any more.
Could I have deleted it some  how?

hi, do exactly like smoky said and if it asks for your server password, that is the password you picked to login into your host cp, enter it and
click on "Make All Files Writable" option and press ok or save and your off running as they say.

I went to bed after my last post so I'm sorry I didn't report back.
Ok, so here's the story.
I couldn't do what Smokey said to do because the option I needed wasn't there but after turning off my computer last night, and now booting it up this morning, I did get the option to put in my password so I could install the mod only I thought perhaps the path was incorrect so I made a change to it.
The path showed my subdomain (which is where the site is located) then smf1 which use to be the folder for all my smf files until someone helped change my url to take smf1 off the end of it.
I was afraid the path was wrong since now all the files are suppose to be in the subdomain's root folder, (Hope I'm saying this right) so I took off smf1 and then tried to install the mod.
This gave me a fatal error:

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/domain/public_html/subdomain/Packages/temp/./install1-1.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/domain/public_html/subdomain/Sources/Packages.php on line 556

"Function.required" in brackets was a link to my new custom 404 page.

My first thought was I shouldn't have taken out the smf1 extension so I rebooted my computer, just to be sure everything would work again and started over. This time I put smf1 at the end of the path so it looked like this:

Local path to smf: public_html/subdomain/smf1

And I still got the fatal error so I don't know what's going on.
I did however notice that my site still seems to think it's being "powered by ezportal." Could that be the problem?

I haven't deleted all the ezportal files on my host site yet so perhaps that would help??????
I'm afraid to do anything more until someone who knows what they're doing can advise me.

 :hlp  ..... Please.
Sheryl

Smokey, I see you were typing when I was typing so I'm going to first send this message and see if you want me to just try what I've suggested.
If not, I'll send you the information you need.

I can't stop thinking about why I'm having this problem.
I tend to be a person who "needs" to know why something isn't going right and my mind can't rest until I've fixed it so I've been thinking about all possibilities to why things aren't going right.

First of all, in cpanel, in my public_html files, I have a subdomain for smf 1.1.7.
I originally created a folder called smf1 and placed this in the subdomain with all the smf files.
Then a very helpful person, tried to clear up all the errors on my error log in the admin panel on smf. In helping me, she accessed my cpanel and transfered all the smf files to the subdomain's root so I wouldn't have smf1 as an extension on my url.

Second, I don't know if she deleted the smf1 folder but it's still there and all that's in it is an ezportal folder with ezportal files.
My guess is I created a folder when I tried to update ezportal since the path for installing mods in my admin panel went to the smf1 folder. I'm "thinking" I should have changed the path but I need one of you smart people to verify that for me.

Third, I also have a folder in the subdomain's root for ezportal and the ezportal files so I'm thinking the person who moved my files out of smf1 into the subdomian's root,  moved everything which included the ezportal files.

So if what I'm thinking is right, could this be causing my problems and errors?
I'm still kind of afraid to delete anything until someone reasures me that I won't make more of a mess out of everything  but I wonder if my problems will clear up if I get rid of anything pertaining to ezportal.
Will that stop my site from thinking it's "powered by ezportal?"

I decided to delete everything that said ezportal from my cpanel, including something called ezportal template.php and now I lost my site.
I knew I should have waited for help.
It can't load ezportal so it won't open.
AHHHHHH!
Now what?

Forget the panic attack. Maybe I'm finally getting a few brains when it comes to what needs to be done.
I have no idea if this is going to mess things up further but I opened the ezportal zip file on my computer, located the template.php file and uploaded it to my site.
In doing so, I got the site back but I still need to get ezportal off of it and I'm done trying.
One disaster for the day is enough for me.

Smokey, I'll be sending you the information you need in order to perhaps get things straightened out for me.
When ever you get a chance. I can't worry about this any more, at least not for awhile, lol.
I've been obsessing over this all morning.
Oh wait, it's already afternoon and I haven't even had lunch.
