[Tutorial] How to add MORE domains to your hosting account?
« on: January 19, 2009, 11:16:15 AM »
With our hosting service, you were probably assigned with a sub-domain like http://user.smfhelper.net. You don't have to use this sub-domain if you don't want to.

You can add your own domains, here are the steps...

1.) First of all buy the domain(s) you wish the website to use. Keep in mind that depending on what hosting plan you have, you're limited to how many domains you can use.

2.) Wherever you purchased the domains is where you need to go into the settings and change the nameservers to the nameservers you were assigned when you first registered here. If you lost the welcome PM, feel free to PM one of the hosting staff to retrieve the namerservers you need. I believe the nameservers are something like "NS1.SMFHELPER.NET" and "NS2.SMFHELPER.NET"

3.) This nameserver change will take approximately 48 hours to complete before it will actually work by that domain.

4.) Login to your CPanel account. Navigate to "Addon Domains" under the "Domains" category. Enter your new domain name (without the http: // and www). Change the document root to whatever folder you want the domain to access, you can make a new one or make it go to your root.

5.) Click Add! You're done. Within a few hours the domain will be added.
