Chat/Messenger On Forum
« on: March 12, 2007, 12:40:32 PM »
My current host CPanel has alot more features than my test forum and noticed it contains a chat section. Has anyone setup the forum chat using CPanel X?. If so, could you explain about it and where is will show on the forum (is it in a block?), etc.

                                                                                                                                   Thanks

No, I don't know how to set that up on a forum.  But I can try to set that up on my test forum I have and I will get back when I'm done and tell you what you have to do ok.

Edit --

The only thing you can do is add to the link to "My Chat" in a tp block.  So your member's can go chat in that.  You can install it on the same database or create a new database for My Chat.

I install it on the same database on the test forum but I don't know how it act with lot's presser of My Chat and the member's....

I guess not.

You can install "My Chat" on the same database you are using for the forum or you can create a new database for "My Chat" if you want too.

1 -- log into your c-panel
2 -- Then to to PhpMyChat
3 -- Follower what the thing say.
4 -- All you have to do put in a Admin Usernam and Admin Password.
5 -- You will see the drop down menu for to create a new database or install it on the forum database.  (To me I install it on my forum database on the test forum)

Here what the link look like
http://darkness.smfhelp.com/mychat/

Just put the link in a TP block.

Thanks Shadow. If it's okay with you Bigguy, i'd like to leave this open for awhile as i'm still very busy with my job and haven't had time recently to begin the install of this. Hopefully very soon.

Your welcome!  ;)

Edit --

Update on MyChat....

Well, Don't install My Chat on the same database as your forum.  Just create a new database for My Chat.

I am running into trouble now with MyChat on the same database as my forum.  Because I noted the forum going so slow all that and TP acting up on me too.  I unstall TP but in the Admin Panel showing I have TP install and I can access TP setting all that.

Well, I unstall everything off of the forum and didn't work at all.  I unstall MyChat and removed the database off of my forum database and the user too.  Still didn't work at all.

I did a fresh install of SMF and TP.  And took me about 3 min's to do the installing.  I just Removed all the SMF & TP folder's and file's and uploading the install 1.1.1 zipfile and Extract all the Files from the zipfile.  But I keep the database.

Just create a new DATABASE for my chat ok.

What if we beat the makers of MyChat up until they agree to make it work with smf? Nah just kidding but I'd like to point out the integrated chat mod. It is good, but didn't install right on my forum, I think I might have missed a manual edit somewhere.
